What is World
Health Vision?
The World Health Vision is a non-profit, charitable organization of various medical professionals and health-care practitioners who volunteer their services and expertise to developing countries to help educate, administer, and treat the poorest segments of the population in order to improve their overall health.
Related Services and Situational Analysis of the World Health Vision (WHV):
- WHV volunteers work primarily in hospitals and clinics in developing countries.
- WHM carefully evaluates the needs of the population we serve. Our voluntary team works closely with state governors and deputy governors, health ministers, medical directors, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, dieticians, and other medical and administrative staff in order to meet the most critical needs of the receiving institution.
- WHM operates on-going programs in the Federal Republic of Nigeria although other destinations are feasible.
- We strive to provide medical supplies and equipment, pharmaceuticals, vitamin supplements, educational tools and free services to those in need, both internationally and domestically.
- WHV professionals are encouraged to conduct special needs programs in the countries we visit (i.e. diabetes, hypertension, HIV-AIDs, malaria, vitamin deficiency, tuberculosis, immunizations, nutrition, etc) to further improve the health of the needy and better represent the spirit of our program. Therefore, WHV encourages and promotes research projects in a variety of fields related to health care.
- The logistics of sending a medical team to Nigeria each year is a huge undertaking, therefore WHV hires a Nigerian coordinator to assist in the planning and conducting of air and ground travel, accommodations, meetings, seminars and screenings, and all necessary arrangements to meet appropriate protocol. Regular communication via fax, e-mail, and cell phone are essential for viable and effective coordination of the programs.
- WHV strives to visit as many hospitals and clinics as possible to establish and proliferate our on-going health programs. We work closely with host physicians, administration, and ancillary medical staff in order to collaborate on intended programs and screenings.
- Our volunteers are encouraged to educate. We welcome volunteers to present lectures of relevant health-related topics to university students, hospital medical staff, faculty, or patients and the general population.
- WHV does not have the capacity to provide immediate disaster assistance nor are we a storage repository for goods and supplies. We strive to garner donations from all aspects of the American medical landscape in order to provide free goods, supplies and equipment to our host countries.
- As part of our ongoing mission, WHV works to encourage greater understanding of the health challenges faced in developing countries. We strive to establish good relationships with state and local governments; we value the wisdom of indigenous peoples, and respect the advice of local experts. This organization also serves to foster strong intercultural bonds among people involved in the program.
- We encourage the participation of volunteers, donations of supplies, equipment and other goods necessary to sustain a successful operation.
World Health Vision Support
As a non-profit, charitable organization, and as a non-governmental organization, World Health Mission relies on individual, public, business, and foundation support for its continued mission. In many cases, there has been widespread community support for the organization.
